Alaska and land-into-trust: NARF files suit against the Department of the Interior:

NARF has filed litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the U.S. Department of Interior on behalf of four Alaska Tribes. The tribes are challenging 25 C.F.R. Part 151's bar to acquisition of trust land in Alaska on behalf of Alaska Tribes and individual Indians on the basis that it denies Alaska Tribes an option that all other federally recognized tribes are entitled to under the IRA. The suit challenges only the regulation's bar to Alaska lands being taken into trust; it does not challenge the regulation itself or the secretary's discretion to act upon petitions. The suit is widely supported by Alaska Inter-Tribal Council, the Alaska Federation of Natives and numerous tribes in Alaska. Copy of complaint.
