The aim of this service is to ensure that the questions that your questions are professionally answered within the scope of our service policies.

Our library service is here to help you Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Mountain Standard time. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to ask one of our librarians by visiting our library or by phoning us at 303-447-8760 or by using the contact information on the library web site.

Service Policies

See our Mission and Services web page. We can provide free research assistance related to Native American law. We can also provide copies of documents in our collection, or we can locate almost any other document from another library, the Internet or subscription databases. We can deliver documents via this service or by mail or fax. Fees may apply to document delivery as per our cost-sharing policy. We also provide more in-depth customized research for a fee.

Requests should be related to Native American law

We can provide research help relating to Native American law. Other questions, including those regarding general history and culture of Native Americans should be directed to other public and academic libraries.

We cannot provide legal advice

The National Indian Law Library is unable to provide legal advice, but we can provide information relating to your topic. The law librarians providing this service are not attorneys and can not provide legal advice. Please see our guide to obtaining legal help if you need advice rather than information.

Turnaround time

Our objective time for answering your question is always given to you when you submit a question. If you have provided us with an email address, you will receive acknowledgment of your request by return email, and will be advised by email if a problem is encountered with your request. Sometimes requests need to be referred to specialist organisations and you will be advised of a delay if this is required.

Response methods

Email is our preferred contact method. For those without access to email, be sure to take a note of your query number so that you can use the Check on existing question link accessible from the header of any of the pages of our service to see the status of your question. Alternatively you can ask your question in person or by phone. Call 303-447-8760 and ask for the library.
