RESOLUTlON NO. 2000 - 09
A RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE COUSHATTA GAMING REVENUE ALLOCATION ORDINANCE,
SPECIFICALLY, SECTION 5 (f) (6):
WHEREAS, |
the
Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana ("Tribe") is a sovereign
Indian Nation and is recognized as such by the United States of
America; and |
WHEREAS, |
the
Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana is empowered by its sovereign status
to exercise Legislative, Executive and Judicial powers; and |
WHEREAS, |
the
Coushatta Tribal Council is the duly elected governing body of
the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana; and |
WHEREAS, | the
Coushatta Tribal Council endeavors to improve the laws and ordinances
governing the Coushatta Tribe; |
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Coushatta Tribal Council hereby directs the tribal attorneys and requests the assistance of the Court, to review the current Coushatta Gaming Revenue Allocation Ordinance, specifically the sections governing Minor's Trust Accounts, for inconsistencies with Individual Trust Documents,and then to make recommendations for amendments to the Ordinance, and Individual Trust Documents, that reflect the best interest of the tribe's minor children.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is the intent of the Tribal Council that the Coushatta Gaming Revenue Allocation Ordinance, Section 5 (f) (6), be amended as follows:
If the qualified minor tribal member dies before reaching the age of twenty-one (21), the monies placed into the "Minors Trust Fund" on behalf of the qualified tribal member shall be distributed by the Tribal Court pursuant to provisions of applicable tribal law.

This resoluction was duly acted upon by the following Council Members at a meeting held on April 4, 2000, with a quorum present.
