CHAPTER 43
RESERVATION-WIDE SCHOOL BOARD CODE
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Oglala Sioux Tribe does hereby establish a Reservation wide school board to be composed of one (1) representative from each school board operating a school within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation including tribally chartered schools, Bureau of Indian Affairs Schools, Shannon County Schools, Red Cloud School, Our Lady of Lourdes, and a representative of the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council HEW Committee.
That the first meeting of this Board be scheduled no later than the 1st day of October, 1987, and subsequent meetings shall be held the 3rd Thursday of each month thereafter or as called by the HEW Committee.
That this Board shall be empowered to develop and establish policies and procedures for school operation programs on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and to carry out all Ordinances and Resolutions regarding education adopted by the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council.
That the Board shall be empowered to develop and establish By-laws to govern its internal operations.
"All schools located within the exterior boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, including, but not limited, to BIA Tribally controlled schools, both contracts and grants, church, state, private and Oglala Lakota College are hereby required to conduct a criminal records check on any and all employees of such schools.
Effective this date such criminal records check shall be a precondition for employment by any and all schools operating within the exterior boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
All present employees both professional and non-professional staff shall, at the cost of the employee, arrange for criminal records check no later than the 1st day of May, 1991."
