Traditional knowledge, culture, health, and spirituality are so interconnected with Native American sacred places. NARF has a long history protecting sacred places and supporting solutions grounded in Indigenous thinking. This Native American Heritage month and through the end of the year, we will highlight the ongoing work to protect sacred places.

Grassroots activists and cultural practitioners met with leaders in public health professions to discuss how access to and protection of sacred places affects the health of Indigenous communities and how public health as a profession could help Indigenous practitioners better access and protect sacred places. Native people face many issues in accessing sacred places as part of healthy living and recovery. This dialog took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at a gathering convened by NARF and the John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health.
