The Native American Rights Fund stands in solidarity with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as it faces a grand jury indictment.
Efforts to intimidate or discredit organizations that defend fundamental rights and challenge abuses of power represent a threat not only to those organizations but to the health of our democracy itself. Every day, we see attempts to roll back civil rights protections that took generations to win.
For more than five decades, NARF has fought to protect the civil and human rights of Native peoples and to hold the federal government accountable for its treaty and trust obligations. Throughout our history, we have confronted federal government overreach, obstruction, and oppression — and we have never been silenced. Attempts to chill advocacy or punish organizations for doing their work will not deter those committed to justice.
We reject the use of government power to target civil rights organizations and divert attention from the urgent work of addressing systemic inequality, violence, and discrimination.
The Native American Rights Fund remains firmly committed to fighting for equality, civil rights, and day‑to‑day justice. We will continue to speak out and work toward a future rooted in dignity, government accountability, and an inclusive democracy where no community is silenced.
