At NARF, we are dedicated to supporting the next generation of Indian law lawyers, and one way we do this is through our Law Clerk Program. This week we’re highlighting Allison Athens, a law clerk in our Anchorage, AK, office.
Allison was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. She currently lives in California and is a rising second-year law student at Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall) studying Environmental Law and Policy, Federal Indian Law, and Animal Law. She is a leader for the cultural property team of the Karuk-Berkeley Collaborative (Legal), a student-initiated pro-bono project with the Karuk Tribe of Northern California. Allison is also the president of the Animal Law Society and the vice-president of outdoor activities for the Environmental Law Society. Allison holds a PhD in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In her graduate research she was particularly interested in how Native and non-Native storytellers discuss place, identity, and belonging in the Far North. Last summer she worked as an extern at the Sixth District Court of Appeal in California.
Welcome, Allison!
