Last week the University of Colorado (CU) Law School honored Native American Rights Fund Executive Director John E. Echohawk at its 40th Annual Alumni Awards Celebration. The law school named Echohawk the 2021 Richard Schaden Adopted Alumni.

“John has been a true partner to the CU Law School for many years,” said CU Law School Dean S. James Anaya in the virtual ceremony to over 140 guests.

Attendees watched the video below, which shares some of Echohawk’s accomplishments. Attendees thanked him for years of service and inspiring dedication to the law and Native rights.

“Thank you to all here, for being a part of the Colorado law family,” said Echohawk. “It’s been an honor to partner on important projects with the law school. Thank you to the law alumni board for this recognition.”

Echohawk explained that for the past 50 years, from its inception, NARF has maintained a collaborative partnership and close association with the school. Currently NARF and CU Law School have partnered with the National Congress of the American Indians on the Project to Implement the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Rights.
