The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California recently ruled that groundwater can be a source for fulfilling the reserved water rights of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.  The ruling supports what the tribe has sought from the water districts for over 20 years—recognition of the tribe’s rights to use groundwater in the Coachella Valley, and of its interest in responsible management of the aquifer.  NARF Staff Attorneys Steven Moore and Heather Whiteman Runs Him are part of the legal team working to secure this important initial victory for the tribe and will continue to represent the tribe as the case moves forward.
